What Makes Fiberglass Windows “Green”
                                                         Green/Environmentally Friendly

• Raw materials used to make fiberglass window frames are extracted from the earth. The optimum fiberglass window consists of 60-70% fiberglass, which is made from sand.

• Less energy is required to manufacture fiberglass windows. Fiberglass pultrusion has the lowest embodied energy consumption compared to other materials; very little energy is used in the manufacture of the product. (Aluminum requires heating up to 1700°F while vinyl requires 375°- 425°. Fiberglass requires 200° or less.)

• Minimal waste results from production. Fiberglass windows create very little waste in the cutting process; the remainder is ground up to be used as a filler for other products, such as asphalt.

• Materials have no special transportation or handling requirements.

• Fiberglass windows have an unusually long life expectancy. Since fiberglass will not degrade when painted, it can last a lifetime...or more. Fiberglass windows have been called “the first 100-year window.”

• Fiberglass windows are the most efficient windows available today.

1. Pultrusions have low embodied energy. Embodied energy is defined as " the total energy required to produce a product from the raw materials stage through delivery." Pultrusions have about 80 percent less embodied energy than aluminum and 39 percent less than vinyl.

2. Pultrusions insulate against heat, cold and electricity. This saves for the life of the product

3. Our pultrusions include 10 percent recycled material

4. Pultruded products are long lasting

5. Our products main ingredient is glass, which is made from sand – an abundant resource

6. If disposal is necessary, pultrusions are inert
